Leadership in the Education of the Professional Musician

20-23 July 2016, University of St Andrews
Saint Andrews, Fife, Scotland
United Kingdom

PURPOSE
In an increasingly globalized and technologized world, paradigms for the education of the professional musician need to be reviewed and issues discussed. Invaluable lessons may be drawn from past and current practices, and speculative theories may also be explored. CEPROM invites papers that address the education of professional musicians, whether from an individual and/or institutional perspective. We encourage proposals addressing the following theme and sub-themes:

Theme: Leadership in the education of the professional musician
Sub-theme 1: Leadership theories, cultures and practices

  • Old, new or emerging paradigms – of education, of musical careers
  • New advocacies
  • New partnerships
  • Issues (e.g. how might effective leadership be defined?)

Sub-Theme 2: Leadership in action

  • (New) creativities for the musician and for career development
  • Cross-cultural and intercultural practices
  • Cross-disciplinary and interdisciplinary engagements
  • The professional musician as researcher
  • Physical and emotional well-being
  • Other relevant domains in the education of the 21C professional musician
